Ink Nude - original ink drawing of a nude
The model was actually texting as I drew. After doing an outline on Yupo using an Itoya pen, I put lots of blues and reds on the drawing, using watercolor sticks, then rubbing it off. The green is plain watercolor. It's about 8 1/2 x 6 1/2". Thanks for looking!

Seated Dancer - original ink figurative drawing
Line is my favorite drawing method and I had a really good time with this little drawing - squiggle, squiggle. It's done with an Itoya Doubleheader and touches from my Niji Waterbrush on Borden & Riley Paris paper, 12 x 9". Thanks so much for visiting my blog!

JiveHappy - original ink figurative drawing
My little jivers are back with a vengeance - well, actually, they are never far away. I think all my little characters know I love them! I've been doing lots of sketches that may or may not end up as paintings. I'm a firm believer in drawing just for the sake of drawing - so whether they become paintings doesn't really matter to me. This one is ink on 6 x 6" Bristol board. Thanks so much for visiting my blog!

Daily News Jive - original mixed media figurative drawing
Just fooling around here, using the stock pages from the newspaper as a drawing support. I've tried many different ways of using newspapers as a drawing background - maybe it's the straight lines of the printed paper and the sober stock market news reporting vs. the squiggly ink lines of figurative drawings that attracts me. Often, I will spray with 'make it acid free' or use various acrylic mediums over it to make it longer lasting. For this one, it will be bonded to mat board with Studio Tac after spraying with the acid free stuff. I used ink with some Crayola and oil pastel - it's about 4 x 9 1/2". Thanks so much for visiting my blog! Sold

Ink Jivers - original ink figurative drawing
I LOVE fooling around with these little jivers. Here's one I did on 9 x 12" Bristol paper. It started with a really thin ink line, then I put in some touches of a bigger ink marker and added water, which caused a softening of some of the lines, then I blotted in places and ended up with areas of pink here and there. You might say this drawing is just one big accident. But fun to do. Thanks so much for stopping by! Sold

More Jivin' - original mixed media figurative drawing
Well, the jivers are still jiving and I'm still following them around! Initially, I had planned to do something with Caran d'Ache watersoluble crayons, but all I could find at my studio were the wax crayons by the same maker, so the best laid plans etc. etc. - anyway, this quick little drawing was fun to do. It's on 9 x 12" cold press watercolor paper. I used ink, graphite and wax crayons. Thanks so much for stopping by!

Woman at a Table - original ink and watersoluble crayon figurative drawing
I am thinking of painting a woman seated at a table and did this little preparatory sketch. I really do love interiors and cozy rooms, so this little 6 x 4" on a cold press watercolor paper postcard may eventually lead to a painting. Thanks so much for stopping by!

More of Those Crazy Jivers - original ink and oil pastel figurative drawing
The first time I saw this jitterbug/jive/lindy step, I was dumbstruck. Maybe the second and third times, too. The guy - usually lower to the ground than this jiver - sort of scoots or hops along while the girl holds on tight to his hand to give him balance. Anyway, it's unbelievable and I just can't help but wonder about his knees. A fun thing, though, and I love it, because I adore what the jivers do as they jitterbug through life. This started as an ink drawing and I was really happy with it. Then, I thought about a little color - that's where the trouble usually starts for me, because my lines end up covered and ruined. But I added just a smidgen here and there, so the lines wouldn't be obscured, and it seems to work??? It's on Bristol board paper, about 9 x 7 1/2". Thanks so much for stopping by!Sold

Black and White Flamenco - original ink and stick drawing of a dancer
I did this drawing on Borden & Riley Paris paper for pens, 9 x 12", using a balsa wood very, very thin dowel - so thin that it could almost not be called a dowel, with both permanent and non-permanent inks. It's so important to work quickly doing this even though it's far from perfect, because I seem to lose the momentum if I slow down. I did a lot of scribbling plus some brushwork, too. Thanks so much for looking!

Inkster Passion - original ink figurative drawing
I don't think I've posted this before - it's something I did on-site from life - but I came across it today and remembered that it was to be the basis for a painting. What pleases me about this little drawing is that although it's not 'perfect', I did it from life with a ballpoint pen and it has all the emotion I observed in that tango couple. It may never become a painting because when I've done a drawing I really like, the painting that follows is always a disappointment to me. It's on 11 x 14" paper, but it probably looks best at about 10 x 10".
I added Junction Rivers Winery on the sidebar, where a few of my dancer paintings are on the walls at the moment. It's one of Junction's most interesting places to be and if you're anywhere near our little town on the Llano River, you should drop by and sample their award-winning wines and delicious food. It's great to have such a charming bistro here - you will just love this place!

Ink Jive - original ink and crayon figurative drawing
Here's another version of my jivin' characters in a larger format than usual, 9 x 12", on Bristol board paper. Roger, my able assistant, is sitting in the chair with me and it's really crowded, but he insisted - I just hope he doesn't press 'publish' before I'm ready! I used an ink marker with a thin point, then scribbled the colors onto the figures. There's a little bit of charcoal here and there, too. Thanks so much for stopping by!

More Little Jivedoodles - original ink figurative drawing by Connie Chadwell
Here's another of the little jitterbug drawings that I love to do. This was done on a Strathmore sketch pad, 5 x 12" and it's done in ink! Very daring, since it can't be erased and so what you see is what you get. I think drawing with ink is one of the best drawing improvers ever, because if you make a mistake, you're stuck with it, so you're motivated to improve. Also, I used a calligraphy pen on this one, which is fun!
