Lost in the Tango - original oil figurative painting

My little dancers are back and wasting no time!  I tried a more blue background on this painting, with bits of green. I love the way this guy is so in control, which when reflecting on my teenage ballroom dance lessons, is the way it's supposed to be! This one was done on 7 x 5" Gessobord.  Thanks for looking!

Tango Shorthand - original ink figurative drawing

I came across this 7 x 5" ink drawing today - I think it's on watercolor paper - and don't even remember making it.  I know I have used this pose - if you can tell there's a pose here (haha) - in paintings, but being such a fan of squiggly line drawings, this little piece just makes me smile.  Thanks for stopping by!

A Little More Tango Romance - original oil figurative painting

My tango dancers are still with me - maybe not for long, since they like to take breaks and brush up on their technique - and I'm enjoying them while they're here.  I love the way he holds her - I wonder if she does, too.  Hard to tell.  Anyway, fun for me - thanks for stopping by!

Tango Love - original oil figurative painting

This painting is 10 x 8" and because my little dancers have their own lives (over which I have little control), the pose just sort of happened.  Very emotional, I think, and such a pleasure when they take over and do what they like.  Thanks for stopping by!

Tango Step - original figurative oil painting

This painting is on 10 x 10" gessoed panel.  A little bigger than my usual pieces, but I love working on a square panel.  As I was painting this, I happened to think of that test about shape preferences showing your personality.  Here's a link - see what your personality is - don't know if I believe this stuff, but fun to check out, anyway.  Thanks for stopping by!

Tango Amor - original oil figurative painting

Time is flying by and I have more commissions to finish and Christmas shopping to do!  I love this time of year, even though it's pretty frantic, especially for someone like me, who waits to shop 'til the last minute (which makes it even more fun)!  This painting of my little tango dancers is on 6 x 6" Gessobord.  Thanks for stopping by!

Tango Together - original oil figurative painting

I should have something Halloweenish, but instead, more from my little tango dancers.  They love dancing around and I adore trying to capture their moves.  This is on 7 x 5" Gessobord.  Thanks so much for stopping by!

On My Easel - Jivin' Night - original oil figurative painting in progress

Have you ever listened to "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy" by the Andrews Sisters?   Wow!  What a great song - I played it many times while painting this piece, along with more of my jive and rock 'n' roll goodies.  There's a good bit of work to do on this - work on the figures plus take out some of the little tiny brushstrokes in the background - and the music will just make it fun!  These dancers are on 9 x 12" stretched canvas.  Thanks for stopping by!

On My Easel - Jivers Again - original oil figurative painting in progress

More work to do on this, but should finish tomorrow and will just replace this with the final version.
Love those jivers - they always get me going - it's 9 x 12" on canvas - thanks for looking!

On My Easel - Jive Practice - original oil figurative painting in progress

Much to do on this painting, but I sort of like this stage - not finished and sort of raw.  Maybe there should be shows for unfinished works - could be called "Beginnings".  My fear is that this painting will be killed, so I'll set my timer and do nothing to it after the buzzer goes off.  Absolutely nothing.  I promise myself.  The surface here is 12 x 12" stretched canvas.  Thanks so much for stopping by!

More of Those Crazy Jivers - original ink and oil pastel figurative drawing

The first time I saw this jitterbug/jive/lindy step, I was dumbstruck.  Maybe the second and third times, too.  The guy - usually lower to the ground than this jiver - sort of scoots or hops along while the girl holds on tight to his hand to give him balance.  Anyway, it's unbelievable and I just can't help but wonder about his knees.  A fun thing, though, and I love it, because I adore what the jivers do as they jitterbug through life.  This started as an ink drawing and I was really happy with it.  Then, I thought about a little color - that's where the trouble usually starts for me, because my lines end up covered and ruined.  But I added just a smidgen here and there, so the lines wouldn't be obscured, and it seems to work???  It's on Bristol board paper, about 9 x 7 1/2".  Thanks so much for stopping by!Sold

Jivin' Their Way - original oil figurative painting

I really loved doing this one - well, of course, I have fun with every single one of my jivers, but this one, especially.  Maybe it's because I sense their joy. The painting's not dry yet, so is a little fuzzy-looking in the photo.  "Jivin' Their Way" is on 8 x 8" archival canvas panel.  Thanks so much for stopping by! Those Crazy Jivers - original oil figurative painting

Those crazy jivers are at it again - oh well, it's a holiday weekend.  Thanks for stopping by - have a good Labor Day!  Oh, almost forgot - it's on 7 x 5" Gessobord.

Saturday Jive - original oil pastel figurative painting

A fun little thing that I loved doing - it's about 11 1/2 x 19" on Art Spectrum Colourfix paper - a delicious concoction and perfectly gritty for oil pastels.  Saturdays were always fun when I was young and this is a little tribute to Saturday nights.  Thanks so much for visiting my blog! Sold

Tango Practice - original charcoal figurative drawing

I've been away on a late summer visit and have missed blogging, but am back at Hackberry Street Studio and drawing and painting like mad!  Here's a 16 x 20" charcoal drawing with touches of white - kind of a doodle while exploring different tango poses and steps.  Although, owing to my great - not!!! - skills as a photographer, it looks like a gray background, it's really a light green - one of the Canson Mi-Teintes boards that are just wonderful.  Thanks so much for stopping by! Sold

Sassy Jive - original oil figurative painting

I enjoyed painting the arm position of the woman - hence the word "sassy" in the title.  It's oil on 6 x 6" Gessobord.  Thanks so much for stopping by!
