"Beach Ready" - original ink figurative drawing

ink drawing, figurative, black and white art,, seated figure  For this drawing I used a fountain pen with Noodler's ink - and actually I think it's a Noodler's pen as well. When it comes to ink drawings, fountain pens are my favorite - there's a level of excitement when I'm working with one, or anticipation or maybe just plain fear๐Ÿ˜“ that an ink blob will show up and has to be somehow worked into the piece for a bit of "interest".  I'm happy it didn't happen this time! The lighter lines were made by turning the nib sideways.  Some of those lines are following a bit of shadow and some are gesture lines that sort of "feel" the pose.

The support I used is Canson mixed media paper about 8 x 5", 138 lb.  It has a tiny bit of tooth and it's great for all types of drawing tools.  Thanks for stopping by!

Woman with a Fan - original oil pastel portrait painting

Woman seated looking to side holding fan

Here's one that I'm trying before painting the same pose in oil.  I'm pretty happy with it. A problem arises though, when I don't get the same feeling in the oil painting that I have in the original drawing - plus no more model.  I think there's just something spontaneous that happens in a drawing group but when I'm back in the studio, it's tough to reconstruct the emotion.  The artist's reaction to the live model is what painting from life is all about, I think (when it's not a commission and must look exactly like your subject).  And even with commissions, there's a bit of the artist's reaction, as well.  Hey, I think I just figured it out - I'm going to stop with this one since I'm happy with it.  See what talking it out can do? ๐Ÿ˜Œ  This piece was done on 7 x 5" Pastelbord using mostly Sennelier, with some Caran d'Ache, too.  Thanks so much for stopping by (and listening)!

Happy in a Green Dress - figurative oil painting

Made some changes to my previous sketch - "borrowed" a young friend to hold the pose for a few minutes and it became a
somewhat different thing because she lent her interpretation to the scene.  Went a little crazy with the viridian and manganese, but artist's prerogative, right?  I loved doing this painting and really appreciate seeing you here!

Seated in a Red Chair - original oil figurative painting

I love it when the model is on a break and takes a "pose" that's natural for her.  Then we can ask her to hold it while we paint - works out great for all of us!  This painting is on 8 x 8" canvas.  Thanks for looking!
