Dance With Me - WIP oil figurative sketch

I've been away for several days and am only now getting back to painting.  However, when I got to my studio today, I realized that I had left my oil paints behind so I resorted to using oil sticks - not oil pastels - but oil paint in a stick.  I didn't finish this sketch, and I don't know that I will do anything more to it.  It's just a painting of the moment and it's okay with me to leave it this way - really I do like things sort of unfinished.  Tomorrow, back to tube paints and brushes.  I drew/painted this on 10 x 8" archival canvas board.  Thanks so much for stopping by!

Tango Joy - original oil figurative painting

Here they are again - these happy tango dancers - and although it seems a less emotional, more fun swingy step, I notice that they're looking into each other's eyes.  I think I may actually convince my husband to sign up for tango lessons in the fall.  Or maybe he's just feigning interest - we'll see how this turns out.  In my earlier life, when I took dancing lessons, tango didn't have the meaning for me that it has today.  It was just another dance.  But now, I realize its beauty and it has captured me totally.  This painting is on 6 x 6" Gessobord.  Thanks so much for visiting my blog and I hope you'll drop in on my oil pastel blog, too! Another Evening at the Bistro - original oil figurative painting

I hope everyone had a great Fourth!  Most places in this part of the world nixed the fireworks display because of the wildfire danger, but we had one here in Junction.  I watched from my back porch - it was actually down at the city park on the Llano River - but still a good view and the show was really fine!
This painting is on 8 x 10" archival canvas board.  Thanks so much for stopping by!

Happy to See Him - original oil figurative painting

I am interested in painting a tango dancer with her hand on her partner's face - like here - and although these two aren't necessarily tango dancers, it just seemed to me to work here.  Last weekend, I was in a coffee shop with the most gorgeous green paint on the walls.  I love green and I've been thinking about that paint color, so here we are - hand on face, green on walls.
As always, though, there was red paint involved.  Cadmium red.  The worst offender.  It seeks me out.  It finds me.  It attaches itself to my skin, hair, clothes and everything else it can find.  And it's not just cadmium red that bedevils me.  For years, I painted with only ivory black, yellow ochre, titanium white and Indian red.  Indian red is much the same, I can tell you!  Does this affect anyone else?  Am I the only one?  Sigh.
This painting is 6 x 6" on Gessobord.  Thanks so much for dropping by!

Lovers - original oil figurative painting

Actually, this is a work in progress - a quick little (6 x 6") painting on panel that came from another painting of couples dancing.  They were dancing in the background and I decided they are worth having their own little painting.  Tomorrow I'm going to finish the background by putting a little more paint on it.
Thanks so much for stopping by!

The Visitor - original oil figurative painting

This painting is still very wet, so it's a little softer looking than it will be when it's drier.  I think I must be a bit obsessed with the 'woman enters room - man is waiting in room' scenario, but I am always thinking of possible paintings like that.  There are many options and all of them are delicious to me.  Will do more of these, I know.  "The Visitor" is on 7 x 5" Gessobord.  Thanks so much for looking!  P.S., I know he's going to stand up when the lady gets into the room.  He is a gentleman, after all.

Coffee Break - original oil figurative painting

This scene was at an art museum, in the cute little cafe area they always have in museums.  I love museum cafes and some of them have really tasty food, too.  This couple was so happy and very chatty - just made me feel good to be nearby.  And I loved her hair.  It had a life of its own.  Mine does, too, but not with the same results.  The painting is on 6 x 6" Gessobord.  Thanks so much for stopping by Hackberry Street Studio! Milonga Stroll - original oil figurative painting

My tango couple has been on vacation for awhile (a tango cruise, maybe?).  Now they're back, strolling to the dance floor for the next tango.  I did this one quickly, without many details, because it just felt "right".  I stopped before I killed it!  Amazing!  (Patting self on back.)
This painting is 7 x 5" on Gessobord.  Thanks so much for stopping by! SOLD
