Lost in the Tango - original oil figurative painting

My little dancers are back and wasting no time!  I tried a more blue background on this painting, with bits of green. I love the way this guy is so in control, which when reflecting on my teenage ballroom dance lessons, is the way it's supposed to be! This one was done on 7 x 5" Gessobord.  Thanks for looking!

Tango Drama #5 - original figurative oil painting

How they do this and then keep on dancing is beyond me!  I would be finished if I attempted this sort of thing, but the dancers are in such fabulous shape that it doesn't seem to bother them a bit!  This piece is 12 x 12" - thanks for stopping by!

Another Tango Kick - original figurative oil painting

Another little tango painting - these tango dancers are never far away from me.  Lots of brushwork here - it's 7 x 5" on panel.  Thanks for stopping by!

Shelly Reading - original oil figurative painting

Every now and then, I like to go really small like this 4 x 4" oil - can't noodle with it too much and can't have much detail.  Painted with a pretty big brush, it's on Ampersand Gessobord.  Thanks for looking!

Blue Sash - original figurative oil painting

Fairly quickly done, because the model didn't have much time and really wasn't a model anyway, just someone with lots of patience and a good heart.  Always favoring cool colors, I loved doing this one. It's 10 x 8" on panel - thanks for stopping by!

Mad Jive - original oil figurative painting

She looks a little wild, hence the title.  The struggle to make things loose continues.  This one is 7 x 5" on Gessobord.  Thanks so much for stopping by!

Red Skirt - original oil figurative painting

I've been seeing lots more variety in the attire of flamenco dancers, lately, and really like this trend. Seeing really good, emotional flamenco is such a wonderful experience - not to be missed!  Thanks for stopping by!

Two-Step Sweet Talk - original oil figurative painting

Tonight they're two-stepping at Barney's and loving every minute.  I never tire of my little dancers, whether western, tango, or jive - I LOVE them all!  This was fun to do on 7 x 5" Gessobord.  Thanks so much for looking!

On My Easel - Songstress - original figurative oil painting in progress

Here's a beginning - will see where it goes, if it does - am working on so many things at the moment.  I just never know which will turn out well.  It's 10 x 10" on gessoed panel.  Thanks for stopping by!

On My Easel - Jive Practice - original oil figurative painting in progress

Much to do on this painting, but I sort of like this stage - not finished and sort of raw.  Maybe there should be shows for unfinished works - could be called "Beginnings".  My fear is that this painting will be killed, so I'll set my timer and do nothing to it after the buzzer goes off.  Absolutely nothing.  I promise myself.  The surface here is 12 x 12" stretched canvas.  Thanks so much for stopping by!

Geisha with a Fan II - original oil figurative painting

This painting is 10 x 8" on archival canvas panel and is much more abstract and softer than I usually like to do, but I didn't have anything else to post, so here's today's effort.  Since it was done quickly, I left the background, and, hey, some of the foreground, kind of unfinished.  I like 'unfinished', usually, but when I started this one - which I did from a drawing from life - I had a different intention.  It was supposed to be more detailed, but you know how it is, sometimes the painting sort of tells you it's time to stop.  Although, more often, it doesn't tell me anything and I end up killing the painting.  Sigh.  Will I ever get it just right?  I sure hope so!  Thanks for visiting my blog!

Last Dance - original oil figurative painting

I hope this painting captures the last dance of the evening - made no corrections and just let the brush do its own thing.  It's on 6 x 6" Gessobord.  Thanks for looking!  Sold

Sassy Jive - original oil figurative painting

I enjoyed painting the arm position of the woman - hence the word "sassy" in the title.  It's oil on 6 x 6" Gessobord.  Thanks so much for stopping by!

Two Step Night - original oil figurative painting

I know this 6 x 6" painting is similar to another of my two step paintings, (which is currently at Artworks) but I always love it when they're cuddled up like this couple.  Sweet to watch - and to paint.  While doing this painting, plus working on three others, I listened to the late, great Roy Orbison, the inimitable Jerry Lee Lewis and the fabulous young musician, Andy Leftwich.  What a great afternoon!  Thanks for stopping by!

The Model's Tea - original oil figurative painting

Where have I been?  Experimenting.  Thinking of new ways of doing things - this is definitely not one of them, but maybe I'll share a few of my experiments next week or so.  They're not earthshaking or anything like that, and also not new techniques, but not the usual for me.  They're more me, though, than what I'm doing now.
I painted this one while listening on audible.com to An Army at Dawn by Rick Atkinson.   Powerful!  And I especially love it because he reads the book himself on audible.  That doesn't always work, but it does here.
Back to the painting it's 11 x 14" on archival canvas panel.  Thanks for looking!

Lindyhop Lovers - original oil figurative painting

I was pretty happy with this one - of course, there are always things to fool with and I might do that here and there, but overall, I'll mostly leave it alone.  I do love visiting with my little dancers - we're never apart for long.  It's 7 x 5" on Gessobord.  Thanks so much for stopping by!
