Seated Nude IV - original charcoal/pastel drawing

Here's a sketch on warm grey pastel paper, using charcoal and touches of black, grey and white pastel.  It's on 12 x 9" paper, with the image about 9 x 6".
While I love drawing from the posed model, I had a good time this evening doing little sketches from the TV, where, because the people move constantly, my drawing will always have one person's mouth, another's eyes, etc. - it's a great drawing exercise, I think.  Does anyone else do this?  I'm sure I'm not the only one.  Maybe I'll post some of them tomorrow.  The latest ones are on vintage library book cards.  Thanks so much for visiting Hackberry Street Studio! Sketch of Marie - original pastel portrait drawing

I adore working with black and white and I especially enjoyed drawing Marie using General Pencil Co.'s black, grey and white pastels.  The sticks are very thin - not like regular pastels.  They're sold as  a set of four - one black, two greys and one white and the greys have a warm tone to them that I find charming. They've been around awhile and I've used them occasionally, but have never done an entire drawing with them.  The next time I'm at Hobby Lobby, I'll be stocking up on these - I love them!
The paper I used is Borden and Riley sketch vellum, 12 x 9".   Thanks so much for stopping by my blog!

Ana, Standing - original charcoal nude drawing by Connie Chadwell

SOLD

I love, love, love standing poses! They're always a little mysterious to me. Add a profile to the standing pose - a little more mystery, a little more emotion - ahhhh!
Today was spent waiting for the cable guy, so I didn't get to my studio until late afternoon and then worked on some tango paintings and a larger painting, but only for awhile. My sweet dog, Roger, has a bad infection resulting from a face full of porcupine quills - such a dreadful experience - so I had to get home to give him another dose of his medicine. He's really sick, poor little thing, so I didn't do much art today.
This drawing is one that I did the same day I did the previous drawings of "Ana" - it's 14 x 11" on Strathmore drawing paper. I thought there were more of the 'Ana' drawings, but maybe this is the last one - at least until she models for the drawing group again.
Thanks so much for visiting Hackberry Street Studio - I'm always delighted to have you stop by!

Sleeping Child - original oil pastel painting

This oil pastel was done from life on green 5 x 7" Pastelbord. I wanted to preserve the drawing quality of the piece, so the entire support isn't covered. Since it was done from life, I had a limited amount of time until she awoke from her nap. I did only what was absolutely necessary to portray a sleeping little girl.
Thanks so much for stopping by my blog!

Another Seated Nude - charcoal drawing

I loved this pose - the model was so at ease with herself. It's charcoal on Strathmore 400 drawing paper and is about 11 x 10". Thanks for visiting my blog! SOLD
