The Model, Seated - original oil pastel nude

I'm hooked on oil pastels on black Stonehenge. A little bit of the black paper shows through here and there, which I like - and the paper is so easy to work with.
I loved the poses this model took. Mostly, I did charcoal drawings of the model and then did the oil pastel paintings from them. This is about 14 x 9". Thanks for looking!

Blue Sash - original oil pastel figurative painting

This painting is done from sort of a different perspective - the model was sitting on a 50's low chair and I was sitting on a stool. She was lying back in the chair, too, which lowered the pose. Usually, the model is on a stand. She seems a little more vulnerable this way - not what I intended, but there it is. SOLD

On Ampersand Pastelbord, this oil pastel is 10 x 8". Thanks for stopping by.

Nude Impression - original oil pastel figurative painting

There's nothing I love to do more - artwise - than oil pastel nudes - just completely lose myself in them. It's done quickly and 'recklessly', so that I don't lose the flavor of the model, whether it's done from one of my drawings or directly from the model. As I painted this one that I did from a life drawing, I decided that no matter what other painting or drawing I do each day, I'm going to do one of these, too. (Maybe I'll actually stick with this resolution.)

On Stonehenge black paper, this painting is 10 1/2 x 11". SOLD

Thanks for stopping by.

Favorite Pastime - original oil figurative painting

I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday!

One of the fun things I did during the weekend was roller skating with my kids. It was so much fun and I actually stayed upright the whole time! Watching all those people - mostly really young people, I might add - cruising gracefully around the rink or crashing into each other, plus every skill level in between, provided me with some painting ideas, which I will probably pursue when I finish the things I'm working on right now.

Today's painting is another one I did using my wonderful orange chair. It's just my favorite place to curl up with a book. This is a quickly done painting and I left lots of brushstrokes - my favorite approach. It's still very wet - almost too wet to photograph. It's 6 x 6" on board. Thanks so much for visiting my blog!

Also, I have been 'tagged' - I think a total of three times, now - and when I get caught up, I'm going to do some tagging myself!

New Stockings - original oil figurative painting

The other day, I was visiting with some women who were probably in their twenties during WWII and they were remembering how precious stockings were in those days. Some of them even drew black lines down the backs of their legs in lieu of real stocking seams and they had various ways of mending the stockings they did have, or hiding the mends. SOLD

I have been thinking of the deprivations that were endured in the war years - granted, the lack of stockings is a relatively tiny problem, but women everywhere love little luxuries. I was thinking about that when I did this painting. It's 7 x 5" on Gessobord.

Sleeping Child - original oil pastel painting

This oil pastel was done from life on green 5 x 7" Pastelbord. I wanted to preserve the drawing quality of the piece, so the entire support isn't covered. Since it was done from life, I had a limited amount of time until she awoke from her nap. I did only what was absolutely necessary to portray a sleeping little girl.
Thanks so much for stopping by my blog!

Another Flamenco - original oil figurative painting

Using the previously posted drawing as my model, I painted this little flamenco dancer today when I attended the Thursday Painters - a group of artists who paint together once a week.

When I do the larger version of this painting, I will be able to include the fan that's in the drawing.

This is done on Gessobord, 7 x 5". Thanks for visiting my blog!

Drawing for Flamenco - original charcoal figurative drawing

I am continuing my series of flamenco dancers and this is one of the drawings I will be using for these Spanish dancer paintings. It's charcoal on 14 x 11" Strathmore drawing paper. In a few minutes, I'll post the miniature painting that I did from this drawing.

Early Evening - original oil figurative painting

Here's another of my bar series. Bars are great people watching places. This one had a big window behind it and there was a pink glow as the sun began to set. It was really lovely.

This painting is 6 x 6" on Gessobord.

Party Girl - oil pastel figurative painting

I was so intrigued by the position of this young woman's legs as she held forth on something or other for her listeners. She was very animated and became even more so as the evening wore on. Luckily, I had my little drawing notebook with me. The "model" enjoyed seeing my drawings of her, too. Kind of a 'candid camera' thing, but with charcoal. When I got back to my studio, I painted this very quickly from the gesture drawing.

The Ampersand Pastelbord that I used in this painting - and most of my oil pastels, lately - is just great for these quick drawing/paintings. This one is 7 x 5".

Thanks so much for dropping by!

Renaissance Man - original oil figurative painting

I spent some time recently at an art museum and even though I was there to see the art, much of my time was spent doing tiny little sketches of the people I saw. Actually, I had not intended to do any drawing and all I had with me was a 4 x 2 1/2" memo pad, but that proved to be enough. Art and people - what a great afternoon!

This painting is oil on panel and is 7 x 5". Thanks for visiting my blog.

Texas Two Step - original oil figurative painting

This dance is dear to my heart. It's in every dance hall in Texas and lots of other places, now. It seems to work for everything the band plays, except for a waltz - and I've even seen a few misguided souls attempt two stepping to a waltz.

The lights above the dancers are reminiscent of those in open air dance pavilions.

I plan to do more country dance paintings, along with my tango series, so I hope you will come back for another look. Thanks for stopping by!

The painting is 12 x 9" on stretched canvas. SOLD

Nude on Turquoise Cloth - original oil painting

I painted this 12 x 16" oil on panel today from a life drawing that I did about a year ago. I just love the pose and left it a little loose because, well, I am just comfortable with what isn't said - or painted.

Thanks so much for stopping by!

The Torch Singer - original oil figurative painting

This lady began her life on the gessoed panel sitting at a table with a drink, but she didn't like that, she said, so she ended up being what she really is - a torch singer. It's 7 x 5" on Gessobord. Thanks so much for visiting my blog. SOLD

Summer Thriller - original oil figurative painting

Nothing beats a good mystery and this gal was really into hers. Or it could have been a romance novel, but in any case, it was a real page-turner. She didn't even seem to notice the soaring temperature!
