The little girl in this painting couldn't believe her good luck when she was surrounded by butterflies and one actually stayed in her hand for a few seconds. This is oil on gessoed hardboard, 7"x5".
I'm probably cheating here, since this drawing is many years old, but everything I'm working on is either still wet or not completed. I used charcoal and a little pastel on toned paper for this drawing.
A little news: The North Light book, "Strokes of Genius, The Best of Drawing", is now available. I am thrilled that one of my drawings, "The Model's Musings", is included with all the beautiful work in this publication!

It amazes me how such dainty little girls at a birthday party can turn into determined little sluggers in search of candy. This hapless insect pinata didn't last too long under the onslaught.
This is a tiny sketch for a larger piece. I did it in a hurry and didn't have a chance to put in many details and maybe that's a good thing. An impression of the scene is really what I was after. Oil pastel on Strathmore 403 - 5" x 4".

Another nude in a beautiful pose - one of my all-time favorite subjects - and I was able to use enough line segments to make me happy. This one is charcoal on Strathmore paper, and is 19" x 11".

This painting is one that I did from a watercolor crayon drawing done from life. It is 6" x 6", oil with touches of oil pastel on quality gessoed hardboard.
I am back from my short hiatus - tanned and rested. Well, maybe not tanned, but certainly rested. And with lots and lots of material with which to create my people stories.
Plus, I was so lucky to encounter tango enthusiasts fresh from tango tours, cruises actually. They danced as I drew. More of these subjects will be posted in the coming days.
SOLD

I had to do this drawing practically in the dark and very quickly, too. It was hard to see exactly what colors I was using, so I just relied on value.
There was just something about the jesture of this pose that attracted me. Of course, they didn't keep it for long. I LOVE drawing people when they are just being themselves and aren't "posed".
This oil pastel is 9" x 9" on Strathmore 403 paper.
This painting, "Turquoise Rhythm" is for sale on eBay at hackberrystreetstudio and is 7" x 5", oil on gessoed hardboard.
Another of the small paintings in my dancers' series, this one is called "Turquoise Rhythm" and was done from drawings I did while watching tango dancers.
Here is a 6" x 6" oil on board version of "Lila's Naptime", the drawing that I posted earlier. This little painting was done the same night and is very similar to the larger drawing. It is for sale on eBay at hackberrystreetstudio.
No matter how I tried to paint her, this woman just insisted on whispering in her partner's ear. Sometimes my characters have minds of their own and are simply beyond my control. Oh well. Oil on board, 7" x 5".

I loved doing this one - this couple had such emotion, as well as being really good dancers. I didn't sand the last gesso coat on this and it's more textured than I usually do, so I enjoyed working on this surface for a change of pace.
Here's another little version of the larger works of dancers that I do. While they are very much like the larger paintings/drawings, they're not absolutely exactly alike because they are all originals. This one is watercolor crayon with touches of Sennelier oil pastel on black Stonehenge paper - 5" x 3 1/2", with a 1/2" border around the drawing. Signed on the bottom.
