Lisa Sleeping - original oil figurative painting

I loved painting this one, but initially I wanted to be less "above" the model. It worked out though, and it was a quick little "brushy"painting, too. It's always rewarding when you just go with it and don't think too much. Thinking
can be a killer. This painting is 6 x 6" on Gessobord - thanks so much for stopping by my blog!

Lorine - original oil pastel portrait painting

I'm not really sure this is finished, but after the model walks away, one shouldn't try to do anything else to the painting or drawing.  Maybe this time, I'll get it through my head - ignoring my own advice has caused me to ruin many a painting.  It was wonderful to observe the blues in her skin - really a fun painting day.  Lorine is painted on 8 x 10" Pastelbord.  Thanks so much for dropping by!

The Oriental Fan - original oil figurative painting

I love fans - they're so expressive and meaningful in so many cultures.  Right now, I also love them because they help keep me cool in this steamy Texas weather.  This painting is on stretched canvas, 12 x 9".  Thanks for looking!  Sold

Flamenco Frenzy - original oil figurative painting by Connie Chadwell

I know it's a little crazy and a little wild, but she's totally involved in the music as she stomps her way across the floor.   This painting is 7 x 5" on gessoed panel and I LOVED doing this one!  Thanks for stopping by Hackberry Street Studio - I'm always glad to see you here!

Orange Chair - original oil figurative painting by Connie Chadwell

Now that the weather is warming up, I have a tough time staying out of the yard.  There's so much I want to do - especially before the temperature reaches triple digits!  I decided, though, that the other three blueberry bushes will have to wait until tomorrow to get planted.  I just have to paint or draw every day - a bit of an obsession, probably -  and I'm so lucky to have the time to do it.  This 7 x 5" painting is oil on panel.  I've painted the orange chair many times.  It's always been here in this house and I've always loved it - great for curling up in with a good book!  Preferably a mystery.

Alone Again - original oil figurative painting by Connie Chadwell

While I love watching the guys and gals at the bar, seeing someone sitting alone always catches my eye. This is painted on 8 x 6" linen panel.
I'm sitting here at my keyboard, typing with one hand and throwing the ball for Roger, my assistant, with the other. It's a slow operation. We're all snug inside because we'll have some freezing weather tonight. I'm such a sissy about cold weather. Give me 105 degrees anytime, but br-r-r-r, I don't like the cold. Somehow I managed to adapt to all the years in Washington D.C. - even though it's not really cold there by northern standards - but I've gotten spoiled down here in the southwest and I love our sizzling summers.
But I guess they're gone for awhile, so I'd better go bring in my lemon tree, ficus, geraniums and probably a few more things. It'll be crowded in the kitchen tonight.
Thanks for stopping by! Sold

Leslie - original oil nude painting by Connie Chadwell

It's been awhile since I posted because I've been working on my new blog to promote oil pastel, The Oil Pastel Review. And now it's done, so I can concentrate on work here at Hackberry Street Studio. I hope you will visit the new blog - the guest artist is David Berridge and I know you will enjoy his work and his story.
The model in today's posting, Leslie, is so elegant and so leggy. I kept measuring and the proportions were accurate. Well okay, maybe I did make the legs a little long, but it just looks like her, so I went with it. It's 18 x 22" on canvas.
Just looking at the posted picture I thought I needed to put up a close-up of her, because the photo of the whole painting doesn't show her pretty face very well. So here's another view.
Thank you for visiting Hackberry Street Studio!

Lizza with a Fan - original oil portrait painting by Connie Chadwell

I like these settings for the model and what a wonderful model Lizza is! She can hold a pose - which is so tough - and look relaxed through the whole thing. This painting is 8 x 10" on Gessobord.

We're having rain - Yipee - and some fairly cool temps. But Texas is famous for wild weather, so we lurch from one extreme situation to another. Tomorrow we may have some flooding. Ah, well. My flower beds finally look as if someone loves them.

Thank you so much for stopping by Hackberry Street Studio!

Secret Smile - original oil portrait by Connie Chadwell

I love profiles because they seem to capture the model in a private, reflective moment.

This painting is 6 x 6" on gessoed panel.
