Another Geisha

Geishas are among my favorite subjects. Although I will probably do a larger, more finished piece based on this drawing, I sometimes find that a painting loses some of the life and looseness found in the drawing. This is oil pastel on Strathmore 403.
Five of my works - all of which have been featured on my blog - are in the annual juried membership show of the Kerrville Art Club at the Kerr Arts and Cultural Center in Kerrville, Texas. If you're in the area, please drop by and see our show.

1950s

I'm away from home and studio and likely to stay that way for a few days due to an ice storm. This is when old movies on TV come in. I watched a rock and roll movie from the 50s - not memorable, but some of the characters were fun to draw. This guy was a guitarist in one of the bands that played a song in the movie. I loved the outfit he wore; the jacket had a design, but I had to draw quickly, so just got the overall color. Oil pastel on Strathmore 403.

Girl with Her Little Dog

I saw this girl standing outside the grocery store, waiting I think, for her mom. I don't know what she was watching so intently, but her little dog was completely unconcerned. This is oil on board, 7" x 5".

This is the actor, the same model as in "Gangster", an earlier post. I used vine charcoal in this 20 minute pose.

Rehearsal

I am away from home and don't have many art supplies with me, but I was lucky to be able to watch some flamenco dancers rehearsing today, so I did this little drawing with vine charcoal on vellum Bristol. 12"x9".

Just Thinkin'

This quick little painting reminds me of a rancher standing in a parched landscape just thinking how much he needs rain. Which we got today! That's a big deal in this part of Texas. Oil on board, 6"x6".
