Seated Nude #45 - original charcoal figurative drawing

charcoal drawing of a. nude, loose, expressive

More loose and fun for me than usual.   About 6 x 5" on toned gray Strathmore paper.  I'm working on some 4 x 4" paintings and other
pieces that if they work out okay, I'll post in a couple of days.  Drawings are my thing, though, and I'm really enjoying doing these.  And there are life drawing groups online that I've been "attending".  Thanks so much for stopping by!

A Nude from Summer - original ink drawing

nude ink seated loose life drawing black white
Here is a nude drawing done this summer - can't believe it's been so long since I posted!  I used a very thin dowel - so thin that it kept breaking until finally I was left with a piece about four inches long.  Must have been using a bit too much pressure - and then brushed with water.  It's loose without much thought and that's the way I like it, so I consider this one a success.  The paper is Canson Mixed Media, 5 1/2 x 8 1/2".  Thanks for stopping by!

"Nude with Earrings" - original oil pastel painting of a nude

I've always loved back views because they are mysterious and actually very challenging.  I worked here to get the values correct.  And just to be completely true to myself, I didn't add color to her left leg.  Drawing - my true love!  Using Sennelier oil pastels, I painted this piece on 12 x 9" Colourfix paper.  Thanks so much for looking!

Nude on Lavender-Grey - oil pastel drawing of a nude

I had planned to do this nude sort of coming out of a lavender-grey mist, but my love of line got the best of me.  To paraphrase Alex Powers, one is either a line person or a shape person and I confess I'm of the line persuasion.  Anyway, as with just about all nudes, this one was fun and satisfying to draw.  I love figurative work, especially nudes - the human body is such a wonder and always beautiful to me, no matter the size or shape.  This one is 10 x 8" - thanks for stopping by!

Nude on Blue-Grey Paper - charcoal life drawing with touches of white charcoal

For this nude drawing, I used vine and willow charcoal with bits of General's white charcoal - my fave - on some blue-grey Canson paper.  This one is about 9 x 10".  Thanks for stopping by.

Drawing of a Nude - charcoal life drawing

This charcoal life drawing was quick and needs some "fixing", but I know every time I do that, I just mess it up, so just leaving it alone.  It's on 9 x 12" paper.  Thanks for looking!

A Nude Drawing - original pastel pencil drawing

Pastel pencils are so versatile and such fun to work with.  I tried to keep this drawing free of too many details.  It's on 12 x 9" Colourfix paper.  Thanks for looking!

Nude on Aqua Paper - original nude drawing

Here's one I drew a few months ago on aqua paper, using colored pencils.  Great model to work with, too!  It's about 12 x 5 1/2".  Thanks for looking!

Seated Back Pose - original oil pastel nude

I did this nude on 12 x 9" mixed media paper and matted it to about 9 1/2 x 7 1/2".  There's just nothing - to me, anyway - like the blues and greens in skin tones.  I just find them irresistible.  This piece is a little "raw", just the way I like them - not quite "finished".  I took a portrait course in which the portrait I painted is so exact and finished (although I didn't attend the last lesson) and everyone who sees it says 'wow, you did this?" and while I like it and am proud of my accomplishment, it's not my natural way of doing things.  Just my personality, I guess.  I love it that each artist's personality always shows up in his/her work.  Thanks so much for stopping by!

A Nude on Wednesday - original watermedia nude

This painting is mostly water media with a few touches of oil pastel.  It's on mixed media paper, which, if you haven't tried it yet, is wonderful - stands up to all kinds of torture.  It's about 9 x 11".  Thanks for stopping by!

Standing Nude - original colored pencil nude drawing

I used grey colored pencils on this drawing and I find them pleasant to use.  They're not as easy to work with as charcoals, but that's probably just because I'm not used to them.  It seems to take a long time to build up values and since I had the time (and no model), I worked from an old drawing that was not in the best shape any longer - this is the updated version.  This piece is about 11 x 5".  Thanks for stopping by!

On My Easel - oil pastel nude in progress

Somehow I always get the back view - most people would compare it to always getting in the wrong line - so I guess it's a good thing I like back views.  More to do on this one, but will put it away for a few days to see where to go from here.  Never a great idea to work after the model's gone, but I can't help myself.  This one is on 10 x 8" Pastelbord.  Thanks for looking!

Another Nude Facing Away - original oil pastel drawing of a nude model

I did this nude study on a piece of 7 x 5" hardboard that I gessoed with a bristle brush and never did sand it to make it smoother.  And I had fun with it - it's almost a canvas-looking surface.  There's just something that is so appealing - to me, at least, of a nude who is looking away from the viewer.  I guess that's why I do so many of them, but maybe this is the biggest reason:  Where I'm sitting in the room always seems to be sort of behind the model.  Works pretty well for me.  Thanks for stopping by!

Nude Looking Down - original oil pastel nude

I did this one over an oil painting that just didn't make me happy - which is why this one is on Gessobord, instead of Pastelbord.  Done quickly - on autopilot - it's 7 x 5" - thanks for stopping by!

Pensive - original charcoal drawing of a nude

This drawing is on multi-media paper, about 8 x 6".  We've had rain here in our little town tonight and it's SO welcome for our parched area!  Since our chances for rain are scheduled to end in May (at least according to lots of weather experts),  I'm even happy to wipe Roger's wet feet when he comes in from a romp in the yard.  Actually, I'm happy to do most anything for Roger - he's getting pretty old, but still the sweetest, most wonderful doggie - and a great example of a rescue dog.  Plus, he's an excellent assistant - lies at my feet to keep my toes warm (when he's not on my lap) and waits patiently for me at my studio while I work.  Love you, Roger!

Sketch of Luci - original chalk drawing of a nude

I did this one on Strathmore toned tan paper - and I enjoyed working on this warm colored surface.  Not real toothy, but it was perfect with the compressed pastel sticks from General Pencil Co - in this case, black, white, sanguine and sepia.  I am always so happy to find art media made in this country.  General Pencil is not just an American company, but I really enjoy working with their products - and I LOVE their Primo Euro Blend charcoal pencils and sticks - they remind me of the Ritmo pencils of years ago.  Thanks for stopping by!

Nude with Flowered Panel - original oil pastel painting of a nude model

I love painting and drawing nudes and I love flowered panels, so this was one I really enjoyed doing.  It's on 7 x 5" Pastelbord.  Thanks for looking!

Seated Nude in Black and White - original charcoal drawing of a nude

This is a drawing I dug out from a few months ago.  It's about 12 x 8 1/2", done in vine charcoal on Bristol paper.  I love the way charcoal behaves on Bristol board - the way it copes with that slick surface.  Thanks for stopping by.
