Seated Nude on Cream Paper - original charcoal life drawing

Seated Nude on Cream - original charcoal life drawing
This drawing was done on a 9 x 12" cream colored paper that was in a stack of my acid-free papers.  I never tire of drawing nudes - that's where I started my formal art journey and I think that's the best way to understand the figure.  It was really hard during the shutdown, so a lot of my drawings are sort of "elderly".  But now life drawing is back and so am I! Thanks for stopping by!

Seated Nude - charcoal drawing of a nude model

My most fun art thing - drawing from the model.  I love the emotion that shows in the posture of every person, whether they are posing in the studio, or maybe visiting with friends or reading a book, whatever - it keeps me on my artistic toes.
In this case, I found the dignity in the pose so beautiful. And, of course, my usual complaint -  there's never enough time to do everything in a timed drawing, so I went for some lost and found lines in this piece. It's about 9 x 9" - on Strathmore toned paper, using the ever wonderful vine charcoal.  Thanks for looking!

A Nude Drawing - original pastel pencil drawing

Pastel pencils are so versatile and such fun to work with.  I tried to keep this drawing free of too many details.  It's on 12 x 9" Colourfix paper.  Thanks for looking!

Nude on Grey - original charcoal drawing of a nude model

A charcoal drawing on grey paper - actually it's Strathmore 403 - is the latest from Hackberry Street Studio.   This one is about 9 1/2 x 4 1/2".  Thanks for looking!

Nude on a Kilim Rug - original oil pastel drawing of a nude

I just decided to leave the rug as a drawing (obviously) and probably won't "finish" it.  Artist's choice, you know.  This is drawn with Sennelier oil pastels on multi-media paper, about 9 x 7".  Thanks for looking!

Standing Nude with Blue Background - original charcoal and oil pastel drawing of a nude

I love all colors, but the combination of blue with whites and grey and black are an obsession - at least that's my obsession at the present.  Am thinking of ways to do it - with backgrounds of blue drawings - then the main drawing over it in black - sometimes all I can think about.  When I arrived back in town today and worked in my yard, I was focusing on the combination of black, grey, white and blue.  Are all artists obsessed with one art thing or another?  Maybe.  Hope I'm not the only one.  Then I'm going to start worrying.

A Pose from Tuesday - original charcoal drawing of a nude

I dunno - seems a little darker than I usually do - the lines, I mean, but variety is the spice.  There is some restating here - her leg, which I decided was incorrect, is not in the place where I first put it and her right arm - a similar situation.  Oh well - that's what figure drawing is all about.  And the T principle - from Jack Hamm - is ambiguous on her left arm, but that's what I saw and I'm sticking to it.  On 12 x 9" drawing paper.  Thanks for looking!

Monday's Nude - original charcoal life drawing

Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving!  Here's a nude I did a couple of months ago - it's on 12 x 9" Strathmore drawing paper.  Thanks for looking!

The Thursday Nude - original watermedia drawing of a nude

This little study of the model was great practice and I never seem to get enough of that!  I used a Derwent Intense crayon with a watercolor brush on Yupo.  It's about 7 x 6".  Thanks for visiting my blog!

Ink Nude - original ink drawing of a nude

The model was actually texting as I drew.  After doing an outline on Yupo using an Itoya pen, I put lots of blues and reds on the drawing, using watercolor sticks, then rubbing it off.  The green is plain watercolor.  It's about 8 1/2 x 6 1/2".  Thanks for looking!

Sketch of Luci - original chalk drawing of a nude

I did this one on Strathmore toned tan paper - and I enjoyed working on this warm colored surface.  Not real toothy, but it was perfect with the compressed pastel sticks from General Pencil Co - in this case, black, white, sanguine and sepia.  I am always so happy to find art media made in this country.  General Pencil is not just an American company, but I really enjoy working with their products - and I LOVE their Primo Euro Blend charcoal pencils and sticks - they remind me of the Ritmo pencils of years ago.  Thanks for stopping by!

Another Seated Nude - original charcoal drawing of a nude

Here's another drawing from awhile back - I've been hung up on the Mad Men marathon, then the final episode (sob) and have done very little in the way of art.  Now I'll get back to work.  This drawing is about 11 x 14".   It has some lines in the background and a few on the figure itself that are kind of a mystery - a good bit of restating going on, I think.  I always like seeing the original intentions and then what finally happened.  Anyway, it looks like a drawing I enjoyed doing.  Thanks for stopping by!

Standing Charcoal Nude - original charcoal drawing of a nude

I always love standing poses.  This one was done months ago at a drawing group and everything I'm working on at the moment is nowhere near being finished - can't even be a 'work in progress'.  It's very handy to have lots of drawings around for times like this.  This one is about 14 x 8" - thanks for looking!

The Nude on Thursday - original charcoal drawing of a nude model

Just about my favorite subject to draw - the nude from life.  I love poses where the model is looking away and this drawing fills the bill.  Hoping to make it into a painting to see if I can capture her air of mystery.  On 9 x 12" Borden & Riley Paris paper for pens.  Thanks for looking!

Scibbled Nude - original ink drawing of a nude

I'm planning to use this drawing for something else - a painting, or maybe a drypoint etching (my latest obsession) - but the best laid plans and all that.  It was fun working on patterned paper.  This drawing is about 7 1/2 x 7 1/2", using an ultra fine point Sharpie.  Thanks so much for stopping by!
