Stella Doing the Twist - original charcoal figurative sketch

Play old-time rock 'n' roll music and get the model doing 'the twist' - much drawing fun!  (I recommend Chubby Checker's music.)  This all dates me, of course. 😃 I loved doing this drawing and would like to do a much longer piece of dancers twisting - it would probably have an athletic look - something to pursue - always looking for ways to depict the figure!  This one is on 14 x 11" Strathmore toned paper.  Thanks for stopping by!

Another Country Evening - original charcoal figurative drawing

Here's another drawing of my country dancers that I did on Strathmore's Toned Tan paper - 12 x 9".  I think this darker color gives more of an "evening" impression.  They were into sort of a country/two-step/swing dance and were really good - watched them last summer at the rodeo dance.  I used vine charcoal, as well as charcoal pencil, plus white pencil for his shirt and hat.  Thanks for stopping by!

Country Music - original charcoal figurative

This drawing started out as a gesture sketch from life at a dance, then I just filled it in with vine charcoal and the occasional swipe of my kneaded eraser.  Really, it is like the silhouette drawing exercise, which I think is so effective for showing each part of the figure in relation to everything else.  Charcoal on pastel paper, 12 x 9".  Thanks for stopping by!

On My Easel - Wanna Dance - original charcoal figurative sketch

With this drawing, I was searching for the right casual approach by the woman.  Since I photographed this sketch, though, I have decided to do the painting with only her hand on his shoulder.  Will post the painting when I'm through.  It's fun to go through all the possibilities and work out the right approach.  This drawing is on 12 x 9" pastel paper.  Thanks for looking!
