Brenda - original oil pastel portrait drawing

I wish I'd had more time for this drawing, but  anyway, I loved working on this gray-blue Strathmore 403 oil pastel paper. I know - it looks tan, but that is just my pathetic photography.  My palette was very limited. It's about 9 x 9".  Thanks so much for stopping by!

Great sketch. I like when the color of the paper is joined into the shadows and colors of the face.

A beautiful portrait. I love her pose. I as well have so much problems getting the correct colors in a photograph before posting..

Thank you so much, Hilda - and it's also nice to know I'm not alone in getting the right colors!

Connie, I'm happy to tell you that I've finally ordered a pack of oil pastel from Dick Blick. They're easier to travel with, and I plan to take them with me when I go to visit my dad and grandma in China in October. It's too difficult to take oil paints with me, so I thought I'd use this opportunity to try the oil pastels. Let's see how it goes.

Thank you for inspiring me and always keeping oil pastels in my mind.

Hi Lucy - I am SO glad you got the oil pastels! You will love them, I think - just treat them as if they were soft pastels - use them on their sides, etc. and you can layer them, too. I will be so interested to hear how you like them. And I hope you have a wonderful trip to China!
